Use EAN-13 or UPC-A only for products sold at retail, and only with a number issued to you by GS1. UPC-A is standard in the US and Canada; EAN-13 is used elsewhere.

The check digit is the final digit of an EAN-13 or UPC-A code, calculated from the preceding digits so scanners can detect misreads. This tool calculates it for you — enter 12 digits for EAN-13 or 11 for UPC-A. If you paste a full-length code, the check digit is verified and a mismatch is reported instead of quietly overwritten.
