Multilingual live chat, without a translation team
The agent detects the language a visitor writes in and replies in it — so a single widget serves every market you sell to, without separate scripts or per-language staffing.
Can ChatFlo answer website chat in other languages?
Yes. By default the agent detects the language each visitor writes in and replies in that language, so one widget covers every market. You can instead pin all replies to a single fixed language, or turn language handling off entirely, from the language settings screen.
Why it matters
One widget that answers in whatever language the visitor types.
Your traffic is already multilingual
Most stores serve customers who do not share the site's language. They usually leave without asking rather than write in a second language.
One widget, not one per market
You install the same script everywhere. There is no per-locale deployment, no separate widget per domain, and no duplicated configuration to keep in sync.
Your team still reads one inbox
Conversations land in the same shared inbox regardless of language, so you are not routing by locale before anyone has read the message.

How language handling works
These map to real settings in your dashboard, not a roadmap.
Follow the visitor
The default. The agent detects the language of each incoming message and answers in it, switching mid-conversation if the visitor does.
Pin to one language
Force every reply into a language you choose, regardless of what the visitor writes — useful where a regulator or brand guideline requires it.
Turn it off
Disable language handling entirely and let the model respond however it would naturally.
Optional Google Translate key
Connect your own Google Translate credentials if you want translation handled by that service rather than the model.
Where this needs checking
Answer quality varies by language and by the model you have selected — Mistral is strongest on European languages, while Gemini and GPT-4o are broader. Your source content also matters: if your help docs exist only in English, answers in other languages are translations of English source material, not separately authored content. Test your top two non-English languages before you rely on it.
Serve every market from one widget
Turn on visitor-language mode and the agent starts answering in whatever language your customers write in.
Frequently asked questions
No. The agent reads your existing content — in whatever language it is written — and composes the reply in the visitor's language. Translating your source material improves accuracy for your biggest markets, but nothing is blocked without it.
In visitor-language mode the agent follows them. Detection runs per message, not once at the start of the conversation.
Language coverage comes from the model you select rather than from a fixed list on our side, so the practical answer depends on your choice of GPT-4o, Claude, Gemini, or Mistral. All four handle the major European and Asian languages; test yours before you commit.
Handoff passes the full thread to a human, and what they see is the original conversation. If your team does not read the language, keep those conversations with the agent or connect a translation key.
